Near Den Oever, at the beginning of the Afsluitdijk, you can experience the extraordinary landscape of the Wadden Sea. At low tide, parts of the seabed become exposed, revealing a fascinating world of mudflats, sandbanks, birds and remarkable marine life.
Join an organised mudflat walking tour with an experienced guide and explore this unique natural environment up close. An adventurous experience where you literally walk across the seabed! Tours depend on the tides and weather conditions.
Even without a mudflat walking tour, Den Oever is well worth visiting. Stroll along the harbour, admire the fishing boats and enjoy some delicious freshly prepared fish. Or take a trip across the impressive Afsluitdijk.

Pick up delicious fresh strawberries at Groot in Vers on Herenweg, discover the chicken and meat products from Thaam Dam, or taste the artisan cheeses from Kaasboerderij Berkhout. Along the country roads, you’ll also regularly come across small roadside stalls selling fresh flowers and seasonal produce.

We also make our own local products! Using fruit from our garden, we prepare delicious cherry, plum and blackberry jams. We also make fragrant lavender sachets using lavender grown in our own garden. Lovely to take home as a souvenir of your stay!

For a delightful lunch or a delicious dinner, we highly recommend De Hooghe Heeren, Bistro 1718 and WOODS in the surrounding area. In historic Hoorn, you’ll find restaurants such as De Tuynkamer and Ysbrantsz, along with plenty of other charming restaurants and outdoor terraces.
